Do you remember the beautifully lighting-designed Tartu Cathedral from last spring which up-to-the-sky light-tower and colorful inner and outer facade sparked across the borders of the city? As promised, this light has never crashed out but has reached the eyes of London. Prestigious architectural lighting design competition Darc Awards has nominated this TAVA16 work in the category “Structures: Best Exterior Lightning Scheme – Low Budget”. Check out our installation and other nominees in this category here. We’re proud to conclude that small Tartu is competing in this category with prestigious lighting designers and companies across the globe (Germany, Mexico, Brazil, China, Bahrain, Iran, UK). Dome Cathedral installation is really one of a kind because there’s no other illuminated cathedral or historical church building in the entire contest. In addition, our installation is the only work created during a festival in cooperation with professional workshop heads (Johan Moritz & Tina Wikström) and amateur participants, while all other nominees are preordered works by professional lighting design companies. A true community effort! The winners of all categories will be announced on September 14th in London during the annual gala event. Winners are selected by a special commission that consists of high-profile architectural lighting designers and light artist. View all competing works in all categories from here and here. Hold your breath!
