TAVA 16 is an international lighting and light art festival held in Tartu, Estonia, that integrates various subject fields. Workshops, open-air installations, a hackathon, a conference, a light fair and exhibitions will take place throughout the somber month of October.

PROGRAMME

Workshops: three workshops about light design will take place in the centre of Tartu during TAVA 16. The workshops aim at giving a „hands-on“ work experience starting from concept elaboration and ending with building the installations to students, people interested in light design and professional light designers who will be instructed by internationally recognized light designers; as well as training people on the main fields of light design.

Cityspace: urban installations of TAVA 16 bring spatial relationships between places  and non-places into the limelight. Places and non-places of Tartu on the route University of Tartu History Museum – Toome Hill – Town Hall Square – river Emajõgi – Tartu City Museum will be underlined and emphasized and designers will try to use light to make them function in a different way.

Exhibitions: two exhibitions of the same curatorial project will take place during the festival – in the big hall of Tartu Art House and Gallery Noorus. The curatorial project is titled „Eastern European Light“ and it consists of a group exhibition that is conceptually divided between two galleries.

Conference: an event designated for professionals and other people interested in light and aiming at creating direct contacts, exchange knowledge between representatives of different fields will take place in Tartu Aparaaditehas on October 21.

Light Fair: light fair will take place during the conference of TAVA 2016 in Aparaaditehas. The objective of the fair is to create contacts between producers and consumers – designers, artists, architects.
